A lot of cultures have a lot of weird superstitions and myths related to childbirth.
I had a Nepalese friend who once told me that if you conceive on a weekend you would have a girl but if you conceive on a weekday you would have a boy.
I pointed out that it must just be a coincidence then that our species has nearly an equal number of men and women, and he agreed that it was a great coincidence.
I then asked him how often that superstition was correct and how often it got it working, he said about 50/50.
I honestly just feel bad for these people.
The awesomeness of these achievements by the ancient Egyptians/mayans/chinese, the awesomeness of paleontology, the awesomeness of the Grand Canyon, mountains, oceans, evolution, the internet… they will never really appreciate the beauty of the world, man made and otherwise.
Fair enough, but reading the comments it appears your edit isn’t explicit enough, or people just read the headlines I guess.
Edit/update from 9to5google so this post does not spread what is apparently inaccurate information:
I know we are desperate for content here on Lemmy, and I can google hate circle jerk with the best of them, but maybe just delete the post if it is a complete clickbait lie… you could also reword the post as a fact check, ‘no, google isn’t injecting adds into maps.’
Yes it is embarrassing, yes other countries have similar issues, yes propaganda was and is very good at sowing dissent, and yes it does appear that we argue more when tensions are high.
After watching the debate, it’s natural for many of us on the left to feel a little queasy about voting for Biden. The man’s time has long since passed. It makes sense that many would feel compelled to vocalize their reluctance while still voting for him.
I will vote for Biden, but this whole situation is a shit show and I worry for the future of the country. Hopefully the DNC can get their shit together and drum up some solid candidates moving forward because the republicans show no sign of moving away from the far right.
At first I think, this is a bunch of trolls trolling off all over each other, nobody can be this delusional. Then I realize, this sounds like some of my relatives.
And Dell said “Great, thanks, saved us a ton on severance packages and allowed us to replace our high paid tenured employees with hungry graduates who are prepared to work themselves to death for peanuts”
I just recently rediscovered this song by deep diving into punk bands from my childhood. I remember how much this song stuck with me as a kid and how much I felt like it was describing me exactly, but for some reason I forgot all about it. This song was buried so deep as I had blocked out a lot from that chapter of my life.
I could practically feel the neuron pathways reestablishing themselves, launching me back in time 25 or 30 years.
That said, pretty awesome and random thing to comment in relation to this post.
