  • If push comes to shove your passport is only the first step. You would need to actually find a country to take you, and countries don’t hand out citizenship like candy unless you’re rich. Without a second citizenship, you would be very restricted in where you can work.

Your best bet is if your parents or grandparents came from abroad, some countries have blanket policies to have 1st or 2nd generations come back to their ancestral homeland. It very much varies by country, you would have to do your own research. It might be worth doing as a last resort.

  • I agree with you, but there will be no drama at the convention. There will be an early roll call vote to meet Ohio’s deadline. by the time the actual convention starts, the nominee will have been selected.

The delegates have the only say in the matter now, and if Biden is still in the race, they are pledged to vote for him. The only way out is for Biden to back out and endorse someone else, in which case she gets Biden’s delegates (and the nomination).

Biden is insisting he’s the nominee because he is, unless he can be convinced to back out.

  • I hate Donald Trump with the passion of 1,000 suns, but I am getting tired of him being right about stuff, in his own wrong way.

He spouted off some nonsense about Fani Willis’ “boyfriend”, which we all thought was the dementia talking, until his lawyers brought the receipts.

He spouted off about how the Supreme Court would bail him out of the NY charges, and we all thought that couldn’t happen, until that ruling came out and it did happen, at least temporarily.

I specifically remember reading a link saying that Trump said NY would be in play, and we all dismissed it, and now this.

Whoever is feeding Trump his info is spot-on.

  • There definitely seems to be a complicated dance going on right now behind the scenes. Most Democrats are going to publically back Biden even as they try privately to get him to leave. But it seems to be members of Congress, particularly from safe seats, who are the most vocal right now. (It surprised me to learn that Pelosi is running again, at the age of 84.) Pelosi can do anything short of killing a puppy and still get elected in SF.

It makes some sense, as Biden is polling significantly behind most Congressional races right now. One would think that means that Biden’s baggage is not affecting those races, but maybe they have polling that indicates that there are several close races that might get a bump if Biden leaves. These Democrats in safe congressional seats will have a much harder time of the next two years if they are in the minority because Biden cost them a bunch of close seats. And, if a Trump victory is coupled with Republicans keeping the House and taking the Senate, who do you think Trump will use his newfound regal powers on first?

It is essential that Democrats keep some check on a future Trump Presidency, and they can’t do that if Biden is pulling down Democratic enthusiasm enough to risk all those close races.

  • Right, but those “easier” ways to donate to PACs generally have reporting requirements, particularly for foreign sources. Reporting implies accountability, which is anathema to Trump. He would sooner just sell NFTs and not report the source of any of it. Just because crypto enables anonymous (or pseudonomynous) transactions doesn’t give anyone an excuse to violate US laws, but that seems to be the main attraction to Trump.

If Crypto does go mainstream at some point, it will probably be due to the influence of major US exchanges like Coinbase and Gemini. (I don’t trust existing payment processors, who are just looking for a way to co-opt Crypto into their networks). But that’s a big “if”, and depends on the libertarian “Don’t tread on me” element deliberately taking a back seat to the Winklevii. (You may realize that I have my doubts.)
