Democratics should be taking the opportunity to point out that this is emblematic of the chaos Trump brings, and they should be listing all the right-wing violence that’s been inflicted by his supporters since 2016.
Dems should not be cowed into tacitly taking ownership of this shooting. It’s Trump, this is what he and the Republicans have to offer.
There is no such thing as neutral, unbiased reporting. Believing that there is is a mark of media illiteracy. Making the choice not to discuss the obvious conflict of interest is a choice, it is a form of bias. Journalists cannot be unbiased, that’s not a possibility with the job.

An example would be when Shontel Brown beat Nina Turner in Ohio. Brown took money from Republican donors and corporations, yet she got endorsed by “progressive” groups to help her against Turner, who is an actual grass-roots funded progressive.
Same with Mondaire Jones backstabbing Jamaal Bowman (who had defended Jones in the past when he was under attack by the establishment).
This is how Democrats try to co-opt what they can’t control, and why it’s critically important that voters make it a habit to monitor their candidates funding. The money will always tell the true story.

The smarter option here is to just say nothing. The right has been brutalizing people for decades, so much so that we’ve all probably forgotten half the insane shit they’ve done. Politicians don’t have to outright condone ithe assassination attempt, but the right is a party of violence and isn’t entitled to “decorum”, they just treat it as a weakness.
Condeming the assassination attempt will earn them no good will with right-wingers, and won’t stop their inevitable “retaliation”.

Old age is not a “gaffe” that’s the point. He’s getting decrepit to the point of being unfit permanently, that’s the reason he got away with years of gaffes and now this is a real problem for the party.
Americans understand how old age works, it’s not temporary, and it’s obvious he’s reaching that point that all people eventually do where things start to decline rapidly.
