Progressives are people who are generally unhappy and discontent. They don’t feel that things are working for them, so they want to radically change things, in the hopes of making society more like their hypothetical or theoretical ideal.

In so much as things are not working out for progressives, it’s because many of them are usually people with higher levels of compassion and empathy. I think you’re equating socioeconomic status with political alignment, which will lead to inaccurate conclusions.

On the flip side, there are many conservatives who are poor, trapped in abusive jobs or U.S. states, dying of one reason or another but will blame progressives for their problems because of the culture war bullshit/distraction tactic.

We’re all victims of unabated greed, it’s just that some of us have Stockholm syndrome or a delusional fantasy of one day becoming an abuser a captain of industry

Well, you can’t know everything about everything, that’s why you have to collaborate with other experts so you can supplement each others knowledge.

But every job has some reasonable expectations of knowledge and standards because that’s what doing it competently requires.

Why is basic history and civics important for a congressperson? You’re essentially helping right laws and regulations which will impact generations to come, and if you’re uninformed you may be open to being manipulated or mislead. The double danger for anyone in congress is that foreign interests can also mislead or manipulate for malicious reasons, and not just greed reasons.

So expecting basic level of information from a congressperson isn’t elitism, I’d say it’s a matter of homeland and national security.

I think people should get to do them! I don’t enjoy them, but whatever. If we could make louder noises, flashes and colors with environmentally friendly fireworks, that’d be awesome. I think the noise, flash and color of fireworks is what other people enjoy, but we all suffer the poor air quality afterwards. So I just want something that will make other people get what they want out of fireworks while not damaging the air quality

Edit my point is that yes there are many racists and actual fascists getting a leg up in recent politics, but the main conflict seems to be that people want policies which promise economic/social benefits and protections
