The gambling odds have started to show a significantly better chance for Kamala winning than Biden now, it’s an interesting shift.

And, those odds aren’t odds that only take affect if she is made the nominee, there’s no prerequisites there, it’s generic odds of just Kamala running and winning the election period.

I’m pessimistic and hope I’m wrong, but I think we might be underestimating the pull of racism/sexism that still exists.

I feel like if we put Kamala at the top of the ticket, she’d need a really strong and ‘traditional’ running mate. Like, this guys got to be the straightest, whitest and richest guy you’ve ever seen. I kinda feel like they’ve been exploring that with a lot of top democratic people meeting with Biden lately.

You’re so optimistic. It depends on how you define service, they will talk to you if they’re large enough, but it’s still a nightmare getting them to talk to each other within google, getting support is still problematic.

I think people underestimate how much the Clinton name helped her even when the sexism hurt her. Beyond maybe Michelle Obama now, I can’t think of any other woman out there likely to perform as well as Hilary did. During the race, I heard more than one person make comments along the lines of “If she’s in trouble, she can just call her husband”. She definitely got a lot more points from the Clinton name than she lost for being a woman. It’s a sad world sometimes, yall.

I personally think Bill Clinton’s brother Roger could have won that race even with all his controversies and the fact that he has zero qualifications.

Wow, republicans losing Texas, that would be a hell of a win if Colin could pull it off.

It’s kind of sad, but we have to temper expectations on both of the candidates. These two both hit retirement age over a decade ago and we’re trying to put them in potentially the most stressful job in the nation.

• Hostilities were mostly over, but these two were technically alive during World War 2.
• The first meeting of the United Nations was after these two were born.
• The current incarnation of India as a country is younger than these two.
• They’re both older than NATO.
• We only had 48 states when these two were born.
• These two were already out of high school when Martin Luther King delivered his speech.

I could just keep going forever on these. I am not sure that this is the job for anyone so far removed from their prime.

I’m also wary of any poll that shows such a strong showing for Kamala Harris. Not saying it’s wrong, it legitimately looks like it’s got a lot of good data, but every other poll I’ve seen has been fairly unfavorable to the idea of her running against Trump.

They will if it’s more than 45 days late, when that starts is usually going to be ‘from tax day’, that can vary, but it’s usually for reasons that would typically be your fault (filed late, etc). They even use the same rates they would charge you if you were late to pay them. This has never happened to me, but I’m told that the interest accrual is automatic, supposedly don’t even have to ask.

I admire your optimism, but even if you aren’t willing to bend the rules and stick to the letter of the ethics rules, you can still use campaign funds for a fairly broad amount of items. And, if you are willing to bend the rules… when’s the last time you heard of someone getting in trouble for misuse of campaign funds? If you remember one at all, i’d wager it was George Santos, and it took a huge amount of misuse there for people to start paying attention.

I think we’ve been operating on the false assumption that the Democratic partys primary goal is to win. I would wager that as far as campaign contributions go, it’s likely better for them financially if they barely lose. I feel like the past few presidential races have been the American populace trying to force them to win anyways when they obviously didn’t want to.

A lot of their decisions make a lot more sense in that context.

The ‘But, everyone is a bit evil’ argument is such bullshit, the concern here is obviously the extent of the surveillance, but no one can say you’re entirely wrong because the definition of that is so broad.

There are resellers in the US who will set you up with the infrastructure to do it yourself. You don’t need much and it’s less expensive than you’d think, almost turnkey.

You might be overestimating how much content that was. Streaming services try to maintain an illusion of neverending content but last I saw except for prime, the amount of content they offer has been trending down.

Those numbers are fairly accessible for an average person with 3 or 4 large hard drives.

I’ll never write a job description myself again and my need for getting with communications for mass correspondence is almost gone.

If you search back far enough on some lemmy instances that have defederated others, you’ll find ghosts of old content from those defederated servers, but it’s all local to whatever instance you’re viewing it on. A large amount of the content from the server that went down should also exist on the servers that server was federated with.

These lemmy instances have got to start running out of storage though, I haven’t heard of any kind of automated purging. I’d bet someone somewhere is already working on an archive lemmy.
