The only way this is possible is by rewriting the Constitution. FDR was the last president willing to, and that definitely didn’t happen.

He didn’t actually endorse Trump or Vance which is key. If he had, well, fuck him. But he demanded concessions.

That said: more than anything if you look at the crowd you’ll see the remarkable difference between the ruling class attending and the working class base that make up the GOP. That was a speech to the GOP’s working class base to make demands.

I have strong doubts if it will be fruitful, but I’m willing to see it out. Took some balls to make that speech without endorsing anyone.

Maybe the GIs that physically built or bought their own homes, but the developers and companies that did the building and selling of homes to the GIs sure did.

And for a large portion of them: they would have gone along with the enforced racial segregation of the time, which was the system in place designed to separate more than just tax money.

I live in the PNW and there are developed communities, (mostly waterfront), built right after WW2 and explicitly written in their covenants bamned access to non-whites.

So a GI who bought one of those houses may not have cared too much personally, but the system is what facilitated it. Which is why it has nothing to do with personal conviction.

Post WW2 was when racial segregation was still legal. Redlining was a long documented thing and definitely included tax money going to schools.

They want a competent president. Biden has been showing these signs for quite some time to a lot of resistance towards anyone willing to acknowledge it. But now? Shit I’ve seen hard leftists express willingness to support Kamala Harris so I think people are mostly on board for not-Biden in general.

The key differences are Trump is the popular candidate. He is who the GOP electorate wants and who the GOP runs on.

Biden is not a popular candidate and not who the Democratic party electorate necessarily wants: instead his whole candidacy and presidency has solely been not being Trump. This condition is fully transferrable to any candidate with support of the party.

So the ramifications and implications are wildly different.
