Nah, Russia is Trump’s true love. He doesn’t care if China benefits, as long as it weakens the US, because that is what benefits Russia.

He doesn’t need to make a decision or get a kickback. Russia has already provided for his every need; a massive publicity campaign that is ongoing, unlimited money in the form of crooked bank lending and sweetheart real estate deals. He gets Russian intelligence on whatever might threaten him or enrich him.

He saw the Russian oligarchy in which a handful of cutthroat dogs control everything and can do whatever they want, and fell in love.

Well for now the US remains the only global super power.

People say China is a superpower now, and maybe they will be, and perhaps they edge America out in certain, specific economic or military measures, but they don’t have the high power, strategic alliances that America has.

NATO, Five Eyes, NORAD, ANZUS, US France, US Japan, South Pacific Treaty, US Canada (most? of the arctic), US Brazil, US Australia. UK. South Korea. Mexico.

Even in Africa, we have a string of alliances right through the middle (the part that isn’t just desert), and still lesser, but still significant alliances in south and north Africa. Check the receipts on mutual defense agreements, cooperation agreements, joint military exercises, to say nothing of the many energy, space, and naval alliances, strategic military bases and territory; Alaska and Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Gaum, Samoa.

I blame the media. Obviously they are not on Biden’s side, obviously they are not going to publicize his victories. He’s made more progress on issues I care about than any president in my lifetime. I think Bernie would have been way, way better.

With you until the last line. I guess “generally” saves it. I don’t think you can say these close polls are bad for Biden, because as you pointed out polling is essentially garbage. I think it’s a mix of selection bias and some phenomenon by which some people just lie to pollsters. Even exit polls have been increasingly unreliable.

I don’t wonder that. They aren’t able to feed millions and haven’t been since I’ve been alive. The only thing stopping Gaza from a calamitous famine has been and remains western charity. Gaza does not literally have the tools, resources, or skilled people needed to govern itself, or even to physically rebuild itself.

What I do wonder is, if the people of Gaza had to bear the actual price of its antisemitic terrorism–which has left it completely isolated, except from other far right religious dictatorships–would the people there allow Hamas to exist?

They only tolerate it, I believe, because they know no hope. It’s been so long since anyone there thrived, the only thing they have to celebrate is death and killing, martyrdom and terrorism. Hopeless as they may be right now, as you pointed out, they are, relatively, fed.

Ironically it’s in large part the charity that keeps this system in place.

Twitter is a cash welfare program for the far right. Funded by corps that advertise there and Musk’s own money, cash gets handed out by the algorithm to the most engaging posters (read: far right and outrageous pedlars of disinformation) and righty douch-bag influencers (read: failed models who became alt-right bimbos with weirdo Cristian gun fetishes that all use the same weird voice).
